crazy cat picsIt's too bad the 2006 H2G2 movie didn't do well...I'd LOVE to see them make the rest of the books into movies. I loved the movie just about as much as I loved the books and the 80s miniseries. I wasn't sure about Mos Def as Ford at first, but he was an excellent choice. Great flick.
If you haven't read the books yet, I highly recommend picking them up, even if you're not a fan of sci-fi. They're hilarious and made from awesome.

I don't know... I love all of the HGTTG books but I love the LANGUAGE, the way Adams plays with words and syntax to make it funny. "'I see,' said Arthur, who didn't." That's funny. Or the whole discussion of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. Or what goes through the flowerpot's mind as it plummets to the surface of Magrathea ("Oh no, not again.") The movie really loses that language-play, and so the movie didn't resonate with me. And poor Zooey Deschanel - the girl can't play any character that isn't wooden.
Nevertheless, Douglas Adams is a god. I got to meet him once and shook his hand, a few years before he died. Terrible speaker. Wonderful writer, but a tremendously boring speaker.
I rather liked Zooey's Trillian, but she hasn't done anything before or since that impressed me that she's an actress and not a tree.
I say "Oh no, not again" quite a bit. I expect to turn into a flowerpot at some point.
Really? A boring speaker? Maybe he was just nervous...
I poured through the books in high school and was a bit hesitant about the film. Having finally watched it a few months ago, I have to say I enjoyed it. It was different ... but Adams was pretty adamant in interviews that it should be. I thought Mos Def was a bold choice, a wonderful take on the character. I like the design and the rest of the cast (Zoey's kind of the female Keanu Reeves - neither disappoints nor impresses, just sort of bleh), and thought it was a fine take on the story. And who can't resist an opening musical number with dolphins. Shame we won't see the rest.
Well, not unlike Sci-Fi doing Dune and Children of Dune then Peter Berg remaking Dune again (and maybe we'll get proper treatments of further books in the Dune Chronicles), maybe Hollywood will remake H2G2 in a couple of years and then make the next book.
What's interesting is that Mike Messina, Rich Rubenstein, and John Harrison, producers of the SciFi version (Harrison also wrote & directed) are producing the new DUNE.
Hell, I'm still waiting for 2061: AN ODYSSEY THREE. Shame Roy and Arthur are no longer with us.
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure how to feel about that. I didn't really like the Sci-Fi version or Children of Dune. I liked Harrison's Day of the Dead the original) score, though!
